New in store: Jo Gordon

As the weather starts to cool down, I'm always on the look out for a soft, warm scarf or a neat pair of gloves to keep me warm and cosy during winter. I know Perth is relatively warm, but we do still get chilly mornings and evenings where a scarf or beanie is very welcome. And so it was that I stumbled across the woollen delights of Scottish label Jo Gordon. Jo now lives in the UK, but hails from Scotland, where she has all of her pieces manufactured, using 100% lambswool from Scotland.

This results in beautifully made and extremely cosy products. Paired with Jo's clever eye for colour and design, her range includes pieces for both men and women, with stripes and bright colours playing a large part in the collection. There are super long stiped scarves amenable to being wrapped aound multiple times, beanies with pom poms, and gloves with fingers and without. The silverbirch and brass striped scarf is a lovely pick with its soft colour finish, and the Loop Pin scarves are great for guys - just wrap the loop around three times and there are no free ends to flap about.

Mother's Day Gift Guide

It's almost Mother's Day! Yep! Next weekend on Sunday 12th May we'll all be spoiling our mum / grandmas / aunts / sisters / mother in laws / besties, and anyone else who has had a significant impact on our lives. StudiOH workshops are back!

If you haven't already heard, you'll be excited to know that the studiOH! workshops run by Anna and Eko, are returning with another two fun weekends of making and crafting. Hello! Here at studiOH! we’re getting excited about our upcoming Autumn Workshops series! 

This time we have some really fun workshops, including Kokedama: make your own living moss balls, Terrariums: make open & closed miniature green worlds, Framed Art Prints: stylise a favourite photo & turn it into a print, Ceramic Tags: make herb sticks & tags for presents & pantry, Kids Fabric Dyeing: dye a t-shirt, bag & pillowcase. Each one promises to be a really fun, creative afternoon of learning new skills and meeting new people.

The workshops are taking place on Saturday 11th May and Saturday 18th May in our latest pop-up space at The Tenth State concept store in Nedlands. Prices range from $75-$95 and all workshops will include a delicious Five Senses coffee (or a hot chocolate for the kids) and a sweet treat from The Tenth State, as well as our usual take home goodie bags!

Today we’re excited to share a quick and easy DIY that forms part of our Kids Fabric Dyeing workshop, but is fun for adults, too! We hope this gets you in a crafty state of mind and excited to come along and learn some more simple but effective techniques to design something with studiOH!.

DIY GALAXY T-SHIRT

Using bleach to remove dye from a dark-coloured item is a fun twist on usual dyeing techniques and produces fantastic results.

Materials:

·         Dark-coloured t-shirt

·         Spray bottle

·         Bleach

·         Old towel or sheet

Instructions:

1    In your spray bottle, mix one part water with two parts bleach (e.g. 100ml water with 200ml bleach) and shake it up.

2.      Lay your t-shirt out on an old towel or sheet.

3.      Get spraying! Start of with a few light sprays and then experiment with different techniques to produce different effects. Try changing the nozzle settings on your spray bottle, spraying from various distances and in different directions, and even splashing droplets. Make sure you leave some areas black and stop and wait every now and then to see how the sprays you’ve already made are developing. You will get a different result each time and it will depend on the techniques you use as well as the dye and weave of your fabric.

4.      Wait and watch for 5-10 minutes while your bleach works on the fabric, lifting the dye and leaving fun galaxy patterns. Leave to dry completely.

1.      Wash and dry your t-shirt before wearing.

New In Store: Wedding Photograms

These wedding photograms arrived recently, and I think they're such a beautiful idea for sharing those special memories from your wedding day. Inspired by Polish folk art, they have screen printed covers and each fit three photos and space to write the details of the day as well as a personal note. They'd be great to send to people who couldn't make it on the day, or as a personal thank you present to your biggest helpers - your parents, your bridesmaids and your new family! And yes, those are some photos from my own wedding... can't believe it's been almost a year. Where does time go!?

Mr Sparrow is on Instagram!

We finally signed up to instagram and have been completely addicted ever since! I avoided instagram for so long because I just assumed that it was people taking photos of their pets / breakfast / coffee, all with sun drenched filters to boot. But how wrong I was. (Well.... kinda !) It still has all of those things (I'm guilty too) but it's a great way to share photos in an edited way, because there are no "sponsored" posts popping up, and you can view photos from a bunch of other people in a feed without getting photos from strangers suddenly appearing. It's all very handy, and kinda fun. (I apologise to those who are reading this thinking Yes! Get with the times! EVERY one is on instagram!)
